From August to September 2025, the SUSTAIN Cost Action supported my Short-Term Scientific Mission at the University of California, Riverside, hosted by Dr. Saverio Perri. During the visit, we integrated soil salinity, climate, and hydrological datasets to establish a basin-scale water and salt mass balance in the Gambia River Basin. These developments provide the basis for the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum (SPAC) simulations to assess mangrove resilience under increasing salinity and climate change.

COST Action CA22144

Salinisation, the accumulation of water-soluble salts in the soil, is one of the major causes of soil degradation affecting 833 million hectares of land and 1.5 billion inhabitants worldwide. However, these lands can be used by applying saline agriculture, involving soil, water and salt-tolerant crop management methods.
