Presentation Title:
Co-Creating Adaptation Pathways in the Geul Basin

Abstract:
This presentation will share ongoing work from the GreenAdapt2Extremes project, which aims to co-create adaptation pathways to address extreme floods and droughts in the Geul Basin. It will provide insights into using co-creation to explore risks, develop shared stakeholder visions, and collaboratively shape adaptive strategies.

Join us to explore the value of stakeholder-driven approaches in managing climate-related risks in vulnerable ecosystems.

Ecosystem service valuation of coastal dunes in northwest Ireland for the prevention of coastal erosion

Abstract:
Coastal erosion is increasingly a threat across coastal areas around the world. This problem
is especially prevalent across Ireland, where local nature-based solutions like sand dune
management are being used increasingly for coastal protection. Sand dune management
offers numerous ecosystem services, in addition to prevention of erosion and coastal
hazards, including biodiversity conservation, carbon capture, recreational opportunities,
and more. However, no single study has comprehensively analysed the role of coastal dunes
in erosion prevention whilst accounting for the economic value of the ecosystem services
offered by them. Our research addresses this problem by conducting a comprehensive
review of available literature, as well as ecological mapping and satellite imaging, to study
the role of coastal dunes in erosion prevention in Northwest Ireland.
